network 2000, inc
founded in 1993 with the mission to promote the advancement of women in professional and executive positions.
Women on Boards
One of the critical missions of Network 2000 is to increase the number of women serving on corporate boards. Women make the majority of consumer decisions for themselves and their families. Over half of the workforce is women. Women open businesses at twice the rate of men. Research shows that a company whose corporate board reflects their customer and workforce base improves their bottom line.
Network 2000 recently joined ION , a consortium of 11 women’s business organizations nationwide that advocate for corporate board diversity. In order to qualify for ION membership, Network 2000 demonstrated its commitment to advancing women in leadership positions on corporate boards through various initiatives focused on corporate governance, mentoring and philanthropy, including conducting and publishing an annual study of women on corporate boards in Maryland.
ION publishes an annual census of studies of women on boards and in the executive suites of public companies in its members’ geographical regions, and works to advance women in the nation’s largest companies. Each ION member organization publishes an annual study on the status of women directors and executive officers of public companies in their respective regions. Collectively, ION publishes an annual census summarizing the regional findings, and thereby reflects the national status of the progress made by women in corporate leadership positions and board seats across the regions.
